Monrovia Duarte Black Alumni Associate Hosts Events for Black History Month
February is BlackHistory Month and the Monrovia Duarte Black Alumni Associate (MDBAA) has a list ofevents to celebrate.
Take for example, a luncheon this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Monrovia Community Center, 119 W. Palm Ave. The Church Boys will perform and, Eugene Washington and Martin A. Gordon will be the speakers at the event. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased through Eventbrite.
MDBAA, inpartnership with Monrovia Public Library, will host “Black History Celebration”on Feb. 22 from 1-4 p.m. at 321 S. Myrtle Ave. Celebrations will include a Rhythmsof the Village Production featuring with Nigerian storyteller Onochie Chukwrahwith drummers and dancers, arts and crafts, and a Readers Theatre presentationof “Papa’s Mark.”
Rounding out thefestivities will be an art festival celebrating African American history. MonroviaUnified School District is holding a Black History Month Art Festival inpartnership with the Monrovia Duarte Black Alumni Association.
Elementarystudents are given the opportunity to display their art pieces that celebratethe month.
Everyone isinvited to join in on the celebration and appreciate the art presented. It willtake place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday,Feb. 20 at Monrovia High School, 845 W. Colorado Blvd., Monrovia. Theart exhibit will be held in room 210.
