How Things are Changing for Arcadia School Board Election

The Arcadia Unified School District has been required by law to change its election to a regular State election date. The district selected the state primary election which this year will be on March 3. From now on, the Arcadia School Board will be elected in even numbered years on the state primary election.

Three seats on the Board of Education are up for election. Two of the incumbents, Kay Kinsler and Cung Nguyen have chosen to run.  Lori Phillipi will not be running again. There are three challengers, Shirley Yee, Raymond Cheung and Roshan Akula.

Los Angeles County Registrar Recorders Office has decided to give voters more opportunities to vote by opening centralized polling places for 10 days before Election Day, March 3. This means that voting will start on Feb. 22 in Los Angeles County polling centers. However, the two polling places in Arcadia are four-day voting centers and will open on Feb. 29:

Our Savior Lutheran Church
512 W. Duarte Road, Arcadia CA 91007
Hours: Feb. 29 – March 2: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
March 3: 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Arcadia Public Library
20 W. Duarte Road, Arcadia CA 91006
Hours: Feb. 29 – March 2: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
March 3: 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Voting by mail has not changed. Everyone else will vote in the voting centers on any one of the 11 days they are open. This year there is no effect on the City Council Election which will take place in April as usual. Starting in 2022, elections for City Council will occur in November with the state-wide elections.
