Powerful winds uprooted trees and triggered some power outages across Southern California Sunday night into the early part of this week.
Winds at Los Angeles County mountains gusted up to 80 mph on Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). On Monday morning, wind gusts that were up to 64 mph were recorded in the county.
Aside from numerous power lines being down and uprooted trees, which kept firefighters and local city authorities busy, many businesses reported some superficial wind damage.
One business, however, suffered serious and significant damage to its patio and external brick façade.
Matt Denny’s Ale house in Arcadia suffered from what looked more like the aftermath of an earthquake Sunday night. Stunned owners and employees arrived Monday morning only to discover bricks and tarps destroyed on their popular patio. The popular restaurant was closed until Wednesday to clean up the mess.
In Ventura County, Sycamore Canyon saw gusts reach 91 mph at 10:45 a.m. on Monday, NWS said.
An influx of cold air could cause black ice, dangerous wind chills and some snow accumulations on the 5 Freeway near the Grapevine, NWS warned.
