Permanent Art Gallery to Open in Monrovia
Launching with a gala reception on Sunday, Jan. 26, Monrovia will have a permanent art gallery in the halls and lobby area of the Monrovia Community Center at 119 W. Palm Ave. Dubbed Artist Alley, this gallery program is a partnership between the City of Monrovia Community Services Department and Monrovia Association of Fine Arts (MAFA), now in its 58th year of serving the community.
Artist Alley will feature the work of juried MAFA member artistson display and for sale on a three-month rotating installation basis. Theinaugural exhibit will feature four distinguished and popular MAFA artists: RonHusband (world-renowned Disney animator who will display his pen and inkillustrations), Joan Whitenack (oil paintings), Carol Curtis (photography) and EricWatkins (pen and ink and colored pencil drawings).
The public is invited to attend all gallery receptions andbrowse the art. All the new exhibit gallery receptions will feature wine andrefreshments, and the reception schedule for the rest of the year will beSunday, April 26, July 26 and Oct. 25, all from 2 to 5 p.m., as each newmulti-artist installation is ready for display.
The public gallery hours are the same as the Community Center:Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., and closedSaturday and Sunday except for special events (during which the gallery will beopen).
Interested buyers can purchase art (via check only) at the frontdesk of the Community Center. Purchased items will be tagged as sold and theproud new owners may take the art home at the end of the current three-monthshow.
