Aldi Steps Up as the Next Sustainable Grocery Store

Some of us may have a favorite grocery store such as Vons, Ralphs, Albertsons or even Sprouts or a Grocery Outlet. It’s seldom we venture outside of what’s familiar, but there is a new grocery store in town and it’s called “Aldi.”

This German family-owned supermarket chain started gaining traction from media attention for its colorful stock and easy accessible vegan products in the midst of “Veganuary,” or an international campaign that encourages people to try the vegan diet vegan during January.

When Aldi started spreading its roots all over southern California, it was under one principle guide: “Great quality shouldn’t come at a high price; rather, great quality should come with everyday low prices.”

Aldi’s principle translates into their unique approach to the grocery shopping experience where they focus on people as more than customers in four simple ways:

1. Affordable and Quality Grocery Items

Just like your local Costco, Aldi also wants people to have the ability to bring home groceries to their families. You can find common grocery items in-store at affordable prices. Not only are the products affordable, but also in variety with organically grown and/or gluten free products. This is made possible with their partnerships with various growers which include local farmers.

2. Exclusive Brand Products

A majority of Aldi products are brand name, but not without testing in labs to ensure the quality is upheld. While some brand names may seem unfamiliar, if someone is willing to try it and is not satisfied with it, Aldi tries to reach satisfaction by replacing the product, in addition to a refund!

3. Deals on Non-Food Products for the Home

Aldi sells more than food. People can find non-food products each week called “Aldi Finds.” Here, products range from clothing to tools and appliances for the home.

Aldi changes the grocery game. If you happen to be walking through an Aldi store, somewhere you can find six circles highlighting Aldi values: nutrition, recycling, bagging, sustainable, environmental and employee. Each value contributes to the message Aldi is attempting to convey as a responsible company striving for sustainability for the planet and the pocket.
