Arcadia Crime Blotters: Jan. 5–11

Jan. 5

Shortly before 10:34 a.m., an officer responded to the 00 block of Alta Street regarding a vehicle burglary report. Sometime between 7 and 9 a.m. on Jan. 5, an unknown suspect smashed a window to the victim’s vehicle and fled with a card holder containing cash and credit cards. The cards were subsequently used to complete unauthorized purchases totaling a loss of $2,300. The investigation is ongoing.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 100 block of El Dorado Street regarding a bicycle theft. Sometime during the previous night, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s bicycle from his fenced-in front yard. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.

Jan. 6

Just after 12:06 p.m., an officer responded to the Santa Anita Race Track, 285 W. Huntington Drive, regarding a battery report. While participating in a protest, the victim was pushed and punched in the back by the unidentified suspect. The suspect is described as a 65 to 70-year-old Hispanic male, approximately 5-foot-3, 150 pounds. The investigation is ongoing.

At approximately 5:01 p.m., an officer responded to Dorano Jewelry, 30 E. Huntington Drive, regarding a fraud report. The store owner discovered the suspect had sold him fake gold bars totaling in a loss of $10,836. The suspect was identified as a 31-year-old male from Montclair. He is outstanding as of Jan. 14.

Jan. 7

Around 12:36 p.m., an officer responded to Sterling Bank & Trust, 657 W. Duarte Road, regarding an attempted commercial burglary that occurred on Jan. 3. An investigation revealed a lone suspect attempted to break into the location through the fire alarm door and the electrical room door but ultimately broke both handles and fled. Surveillance footage revealed the suspect fled in a white SUV with a rear mounted spare tire. The investigation is ongoing.

Just before 3:46 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 1700 block of Orangewood Lane regarding a mail theft report. The officer discovered an unknown suspect stole the victim’s mail from their mailbox while they were away on vacation. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.

Jan. 8

Around 11:10 a.m., an officer responded to Big Lots, 610 Las Tunas Drive, regarding a grand theft report. An investigation revealed a lead sales clerk stole nearly $1,700 by processing fraudulent refunds and misappropriating the cash. A records check revealed the suspect also had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants. The 31-year-old male from Los Angeles was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Shortly after 3:01 p.m., an officer responded to a construction site at 1530 S. First Ave. regarding a burglary report. The officer determined unknown suspect(s) entered the locations during the previous night and fled with $1,700 worth of miscellaneous tools. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.

Jan. 9

Before 8:13 a.m., an officer responded to an apartment complex in the 500 block of East Sandra Avenue regarding a vehicle burglary report. Sometime during the previous evening, an unknown suspect smashed the vehicle’s window and fled with a pair of shoes and a backpack. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.

Around 2:14 p.m., an officer responded to Vons, 745 W. Naomi Ave., regarding a theft report. A loss prevention employee witnessed the suspect steal $159.87 worth of miscellaneous merchandise before he exited the store, failing to make payment. A records check revealed the suspect also had four outstanding misdemeanor warrants. The 42-year-old male from Arcadia was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Jan. 10

At about 8:33 a.m., an officer responded to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a fraud report. An outside agency report from San Marino indicated the victim had her wallet stolen from Trader Joe’s in Pasadena and fraudulent charges were made on her credit card at Nordstrom and Macy’s, located at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 S. Baldwin Ave. The investigation is ongoing.

Just before 4:38 p.m., officers responded to a hit and run traffic collision in the Motel 6 parking lot, 225 Colorado Place. Upon contacting one of the drivers, the officer discovered the 68-year-old male from Sierra Madre was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The second driver was unable to be located. A records check revealed the suspect had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Shortly after 7:53 p.m., officers responded to 85 Degree Bakery, 56 E. Duarte Road, regarding a sexual battery report. An investigation revealed the suspect sexually assaulted the victim as she was walking near the intersection of Second Avenue and Duarte Road. He fled on foot toward the 99 Cent Store. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5-foot-4, with a thin build, and seen wearing a dark colored hooded top and jeans. The investigation is ongoing.

Jan. 11

At approximately 3:24 p.m., an officer responded to a residential parking lot regarding a burglary report. Sometime during the previous evening, an unknown suspect cut the lock, entered the victim’s storage unit, and fled with $150 worth of tools. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
