Thursday is the annual Christmas Parade up Myrtle Avenue in Monrovia. For decades the parade was held on the first Friday in December and slid back to Thursday with the advent (pun intended) of the Friday Family Festivals. For years, former City Councilwoman Mary Wilcox organized the parade with the festivities starting in Library Park and the lighting of the Monrovia Christmas tree.
That tradition will continue tonight starting at 6 p.m. with the tree lighting in the southwest corner of the park (adjacent to the drinking fountain). The parade will begin sharply at 7 p.m. at Myrtle and Chestnut Avenues and will march up to Library Park. Of course, the culmination of the parade will be the arrival of Santa Clause himself aboard the Public Works Sleigh.
