A 57-year-old-man has been charged with scamming eight elderly victims in the Pasadena area, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Richard Henry Solis of Arcadia faces two felony counts of grand theft from elder and six misdemeanor counts of petty theft from elder.

Deputy District Attorney Melanie Drew said the complaint includes an allegation that Solis was convicted in 2006 and 2009 of seven counts of first-degree burglary.

Arraignment is scheduled today in Department D of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pasadena Branch. Case GA106852 was filed on Nov. 14.

The alleged crimes happened between September 2018 and October 2019, and involved the defendant claiming that the victims had injured him with their vehicles and then asking for money for medical expenses or stealing their belongings, the prosecutor said. Solis reportedly stole more than $100,000 from the victims, who ranged in age from 65 to 91 years old, the prosecutor added.

If convicted as charged, Solis faces a possible maximum sentence of 16 years in state prison. The case remains under investigation by the Pasadena Police Department.
