The 2020 Tournament of Roses grand marshals were announced Tuesday morning in Pasadena—one at a time.
Laurie Hernandez, Gina Torres and Rita Moreno were named as co-grand marshals during the elaborate ceremony at the Tournament House in Pasadena.
Rita Moreno is a Puerto Rican actress, dancer and singer whose career has spanned more than 70 years. She has won all four major annual American entertainment awards, including an Oscar, an Emmy, a Grammy and a Tony. Moreno is well known for roles in the musical films “The King and I” and “West Side Story,” as well as a 1971–77 stint on the children’s television series “The Electric Company,” and a supporting role on the 1997–2003 TV drama “Oz.”
Olympic medalist and gymnast Laurie Hernandez said, “That is representation that I have always wanted to see as a little kid and now you have three generations of it.”
Actress Gina Torres added, “At this point in my career, to actually be acknowledged as a Latina woman, having not been able to be that for a great part of my career, for me is an incredibly emotional experience.”
The three accomplished Latinas broke out in dance following the highly anticipated announcement.
