Smitten on Paper to Host CalligraFair in Monrovia

Smitten on Paper, producers and designers of timeless stationaryand invitations printed in their Monrovia studio and shipped around the globe,will host the third annual CalligraFair on Saturday, Oct. 12 and Sunday, Oct.13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This year’s CalligraFair, the largest gathering of calligraphers in Southern California, will be headlined by three world famous calligraphers: Suzanne Cunningham from Alabama, David Grimes from Oregon, and Nina Tran from Southern California.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn modern, roundhand,copperplate, Spencerian and brush calligraphy during free in-persondemonstrations and lectures from top calligraphers in the country.Additionally, Beginner’s Corner will be dedicated to novices practicing skillsand learning about the tools needed from instructors who will be on hand tohelp.
For those more familiar with the world of calligraphy, there will be three authors signing copies of their calligraphy books. Author and founder of Calligrafile.com, Molly Suber Thorpe, will be signing copies of her new book “Modern Calligraphy: Everything You Need to Know to Get Started in Script Calligraphy.” Graphic designer, illustrator and teacher Nicole Miyuki Santo will be signing copies of her two books, “By Hand: The Art of Modern Lettering” and “The Kids’ Book of Hand Lettering.” Shelly Kim—a self-taught, modern brush calligrapher based in Southern California—will be signing copies of her newly released book, “Digital Hand Lettering and Modern Calligraphy.”
New this year, seasoned instructors will offer semi-privateworkshops for calligraphers to sharpen their skills and learn from teachers. Theseworkshops are limited to a maximum of 30 students and entrance to CalligraFairis included with the purchase of any workshop.
CalligraFair will be held at Smitten of Paper, located at 114 E. Lemon Ave. in Monrovia. Admission is $18 for both days. Tickets may be purchased online at smittenonpaper.com.
