Attempted Murder and Kidnapping Arrest in Arcadia

On Monday at approximately 2 p.m., the Arcadia Police Department received a video link to a doorbell camera which captured video of an adult female being dragged and severely assaulted by a male suspect, in the area of Santa Anita and Camino Real avenues. Information provided along with the video suggested that the incident took place the prior evening at approximately 11:40 p.m. The video also suggested that the female victim was quite possibly in need of medical attention as a result of the assault.

Police officers and investigators began canvassing the general area of the video in effort to locate the involved parties and render aid to the female if needed. Soon thereafter, officers narrowed down their search to a residence in the 1500 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Inside the residence, officers located and rendered aid to a significantly injured adult female. The extent of the female’s injuries were severe enough to warrant hospitalization. Investigation also revealed that the female victim had been held against her will inside the residence.

The suspect has been identified as Robert Michael Mendez, a 27-year-old male who is the estranged boyfriend of the victim. Mendez was arrested, without incident, at the residence where the female victim was located, and is being charged with suspicion of PC 664/187- attempted murder, pc 207- kidnapping, pc 236- false imprisonment and other charges.
