Monrovia Fire & Rescue will be participating in the annual Fire Prevention Week. This year’s campaign, “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!” highlights the use of situational awareness. Fire can happen anywhere and this campaign emphasizes three basic steps to reduce the likelihood of having a fire and how to escape safely in the event of one.
As part of the campaign Monrovia Fire & Rescue will kick off Fire Prevention Week on Oct. 5, 2019 with an open house. Station 101 will be opening its doors to the general public between the hours of 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. located on 141 E. Lemon Ave. Monrovia Fire & Rescue will host a Junior Firefighter Challenge—a course designed for kids to simulate firefighter drills—as well as an auto extrication demonstration. The demonstration will include tools and procedures the department uses in order to extricate a patient from an automobile accident.
The following week, Oct. 7-11, Monrovia firefighters will be visiting the fourth grade classrooms of the Monrovia Unified School District. The visits will be centered on the importance of identifying potential fire hazards, recognizing emergency alarms and ensuring that escape routes are easily accessible and free of clutter.
