Celebrate Fiestas Patrias in Pasadena
The public is invited to Pasadena’s free Fiestas Patrias celebration on Friday, Sept. 13 from 5-9 p.m. at Villa-Parke Community Center, located at 363 E. Villa St. Join your neighbors in celebration of the independence of 18 Latin American countries in grand fashion. This family-friendly event highlights the colors, richness and warmth of Latin America cultures.
Enjoy live music by Ignacio Hernandez with Mariachi Herencia Mexicana, and traditional dances, including ballet folklórico, performed by local community groups. Don’t miss “El Grito” led by the Mariachi at 8 p.m., a reenactment of the historic battle cry that marked the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence.
Children’s activities include a clown show, bounce houses, and prizes. Pasadena Public Library will host an informational booth about their many programs and services, and food will be available for purchase. Be sure to visit the Youth Ambassador Program aguas frescas fundraising tent as proceeds will support the program, which provides valuable work experience and training to local youth who work as docents, crew members, event planners, and spokespersons for the program. This event is sponsored by the City’s Human Services and Recreation Department.
