The Arcadia High School varsity volleyball teams had an up and down week to open their season. Both the JV and varsity squads defeated San Marino but dropped their contests against Flintridge Sacred Heart.

The Apaches varsity team dominated the San Marino Titans 3-0 (25-12, 25-8, 25-16) on Tuesday at home. The Apaches never allowed the Titans to get in a rhythm and swiftly won their first contest of the season. The JV squad also shut down the Titans, albeit, in a much closer match, 2-0( 25-20, 25-23).

However, the Apaches struggled against the Flintridge Sacred Heart Tologs, dropping the match 1-3 (15-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-27). While this was a loss, there were some positive takeaways. The Apaches improved in each set, finally winning the third one and nearly taking the fourth as well to push it to five. The JV squad didn’t fare so well, dropping their match 0-2 (9-25, 16-25).

Arcadia will face Covina High School next on Thursday at Covina. The varsity match begins at 3:30 p.m. and JV starts at 5 p.m.
