
Prosecutors have filed murder charges against two Monrovia residents accused of shooting 24-year-old Anthony Michael Tafoya Ortiz during a drug deal and robbery that turned violent in Pasadena earlier this month. The police department will not release any specific details regarding the incident.
On Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at about 4:30 p.m., 24-year-old Lamarr Marquise McDaniels II was arrested in the city of Monrovia by the United States Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force and Pasadena Police Detectives. On Thursday, Aug. 14, 2019, at about 8:34 p.m., 19-year-old Trevor James Dorman was arrested in the city of Covina by the United States Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force and Pasadena Police Detectives.
On Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, Pasadena Police responded to the 100 block of Painter Street regarding a shooting where Ortiz was found suffering from a gunshot wound. Ortiz was transported to a local hospital in grave condition and died two days later despite life-saving efforts by medical staff.
The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Friday, Aug. 16. Dorman was charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. McDaniels was charged with one count of murder, one count of assault with a firearm, one count of conspiracy and one count of attempted robbery.
McDaniels’ bail has been set at $3,080,000 and his next court date is on Aug. 29, 2019. Dorman has no bail and his next court date is on Aug. 27, 2019.
