Who did it?
By Terry Miller
Monrovia Weekly just learned that someone has stolen a non-profit agency’s means of picking up food donations for those less fortunate. Who on earth would steal from such a benevolent, community minded organization that helps those in need?
Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, Foothill Unity Center learned that its 14-foot truck was stolen from their parking lot. This truck helps with over 100 weekly pick-ups of their in-kind food donations valued at over $2 million (annually) from all over the San Gabriel Valley area. The food totals approximately 3 million pounds and helps to serve over 6,500 low-income and homeless individuals, including seniors and disabled persons who are isolated, sick and shut-in.
Foothill Unity has filed a police report and are devastated with this loss. If you have information from anyone who might have seen something with the hope of getting the truck returned, please contact Foothill Unity, you may remain anonymous. Foothill Unity is thankful that this did not happen a week ago, when it hosted the 21st Annual Back-to-School event for over 1,000 TK to college students, which involved transporting donations of backpacks, clothing and other related supplies and materials.
For more information, please contact Betty McWilliams, executive director, betty@foothillunitycenter.org or Mike Antenesse, director of administration, mike@foothillunitycenter.org, or call (626) 358-3486. Or, call the Monrovia Police Department. If you see something, say something.
