On Sunday, August 11, 2019, Academy Award-winning actor Don Cheadle will take a step away from his prolific role as an actor and activist to host [UP]Rising: An Afro-Future Her-Story, an incredible night of international jazz at the Ford Theatres in Hollywood.

Two of South Africa’s top women in jazz, Siya Makuzeni, a world-renowned trombonist and vocalist and Thandi Ntuli, a multi-talented keyboardist and singer-songwriter, will perform in commemoration of South Africa’s National Women’s Day.

These powerful, creative women will be flanked on the Ford stage with some of Los Angeles’ own creative treasures, The Katalyst Collective, a local ensemble comprised of nine of the most talented and fast-rising jazz musicians in Los Angeles.

“South Africa’s National Women’s Day seems a perfect opportunity to cheer… for freedom, for the motherland, for mothers, sisters, daughters and for all women,” said event host Don Cheadle.

As co-founder and vice-chair of THE NONSEMBLE, a Los Angeles-based organization formed to continue the growth and the rich legacy of jazz, America’s indigenous music, Don Cheadle and his partners have organized an event meant to celebrate the next generation of jazz talent.
