You can help underprivileged students begin the new school year on a positive note by volunteering at the 21st Annual Back to School Event on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Santa Anita Park (285 Huntington Drive, Arcadia). Foothill Unity is now accepting registrations on a first come, first served basis until the total number of needed volunteers has reached its capacity.

The center is currently seeking volunteers to help set up on Monday, Aug. 5. Those interested can volunteer during one of three shifts: 7:30-11:30 a.m., 8 a.m. – noon, or 1-5 p.m.

Foothill Unity also needs volunteers for four shifts on the day of the event. The first shift is from 7-10 a.m. and requires strong volunteer to help with early set-up. The second (8 a.m. – 1 p.m.) and third (noon – 5 p.m.) shifts require adults. The final shift of the day (3-5:30 p.m.) welcomes teens 14 and older and will include cleaning up and heavy lifting.

The center’s goal is to help 1,500 low-income students prepare for a successful school year. If you would like to help but cannot volunteer, consider making a financial donation to provide free backpacks, clothing, school supplies, health screenings, information on vocational and higher educational options, and professional haircuts and manicures to students.
