The Arcadia City Council held a regular meeting of hearing and legislation on Tuesday evening.

The meeting began with a series of awards including the Arcadia the Beautiful Commission’s Spring Home Awards. The Spring Home Awards were given to several homeowners in Arcadia based off of criteria set forth by the Commission members. Winners were presented with a certificate and a sign to post on their property.

After the awards, council voted on appointments for various city boards and commissions for the city.

Council then heard public comments on the adoption of resolutions related to the budget for fiscal year 2019-2020, and capital improvement and equipment plan through 2023-2024.

The city’s plan was laid out before the council in a presentation by City Manager Dominic Lazzaretto, and can be viewed on the city’s website.

“We usually try to err on the side of being too conservative versus too optimistic in our budgeting,” said Lazzaretto.

After few comments, the budget resolutions were adopted in a unanimous vote, along with the capital improvement and equipment plan.

An item that did attract more public attention was the rescinding of a decision regarding an Arcadia resident’s plan for a circular driveway. Previously, a plan for a circular driveway in an Arcadia residence had been denied, appealed and approved by different authorities within Arcadia. Eventually the case reached the Superior Court, and Arcadia had to review its original decision to deny the driveway and voted to rescind the decision.

Council also voted to re-examine and review the hearing for the circular drive on Aug. 6, 2019.
