Celebrate Apollo 11 Anniversary at Arcadia Library
Arcadia Public Library is offering a month’s worth of programs and activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
On Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m., the Library is offering a sneak preview of the PBS summer special, “Chasing the Moon.” The hour-long preview is followed by a bit of stargazing, depending on the weather, courtesy of Old Town Sidewalk Astronomers.
From June 20 to July 20, the celebration continues with a community photography collaboration; everyone is invited to take and submit photos of the moon between June 20 and July 20. The images—showcasing the moon’s changing appearance—will be displayed in the Library. Those who remember the moon-landing are invited to stop by the Library to record and share their memories of that unprecedented event. Taking things to the next level, visitors can complete their lunar experience by taking a moonwalk via the Library’s virtual reality machine.
On July 20, from 3-4:30 p.m., the Library will screen the 2019 Apollo 11 documentary which includes archival footage previously unreleased to the public. Guests can stay after the program and create their own stardust jar while supplies last.
All events are free and all ages are welcome (although participants must be over 13 to use the VR machine).
