Officials from the City of Pasadena and Dakar-Plateau, Republic of Senegal, will formalize their sister city relationship when the mayor and delegation from Dakar-Plateau visit the Pasadena City Council Chambers on Monday, June 17, at 6:30 p.m. Both cities hope to foster cross-cultural understanding, friendships, educational exchanges, and partnerships.

While in Pasadena, Dakar-Plateau Mayor Alioune Ndoye and dignitaries will take part in commerce and business discussions. They will also visit schools, local museums, cultural centers, and a historical church. They will explore Caltech, and visit the Tournament of Roses House and iconic Rose Bowl Stadium.

This is Pasadena’s first sister city on the continent of Africa. To further commemorate the occasion, Mayor Terry Tornek is holding a reception open to the public in honor of Mayor Ndoye and his delegation on Tuesday, June 18, from 4 – 6 p.m., in the City Hall courtyard, 100 N. Garfield Ave.

Pasadena’s Sister City Committee is driven by grassroots volunteers as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Most of the organization’s programs are financed through fundraising efforts of its members. For more information on Pasadena’s sister city relationship with Dakar-Plateau, contact Elisia Farmer at (310) 625-0268 or Lena Kennedy at (626) 625-1925, or follow Pasadena-Africa Sister Cities on Facebook.
