One outstanding WWII veteran is Jack B. McEwan who served in the South Pacific as a Pilot Captain of a B17 bomber, a member of the 11th and 5th Bomb Groups. He flew 58 missions and earned the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Presidential Unit Citation.

He has lived in the city of Arcadia for 63 years, is 99 years of age, but looks to be in his 80s. He had a dental practice on Huntington Drive near the race track. He was serving the third generation of patients when he was called by his church to serve in a very responsible position. He sold his practice and building in the early 1980s (the active dental building still remains).

Arcadia Councilmember Peter Amundson told Jack’s son that he is “an Arcadia treasure.” McEwan is very active in the community. He is seen at the Gold’s Gym and enjoys lunch with friends at the Community Center five times a week. He will turn 100 in January.
