Arcadia Vietnam War Memorial Hosts Veteran Drawing for Free Car
The Arcadia Vietnam War Monument situated on the north end of Arcadia County Park, next to Huntington Drive, is hosting a “Veterans and Friends” get together on Saturday afternoon, May 25 from 3-6 p.m. A highlight of this event will be an on-site drawing conducted by VJ’s Auto Service for a previously owned Buick Lacrosse automobile that will be awarded free to the winning veteran, including one year of paid registration.
“VJ’s For Vets, was started in 2018 by VJ Sabanayagam, owner of VJ’s Auto Service,” said Gene Glasco, Arcadia city clerk and founder of the Arcadia Vietnam War Memorial. “VJ and his wife have a son currently serving at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station. Their respect for the women and men who have given their lives in service to our country and veterans that have served is truly heartwarming,” said Glasco.
Saturday’s drawing will be the second free automobile that VJ has given away to a veteran in need. Veterans who would like to be considered eligible for the free drawing must show proof that they have been honorably discharged by submitting a copy of their DD-214 or Honorable Discharge certificate along with a short statement as to why they should be considered to participate in VJ’s Auto Service drawing for the free car. The entry-application can be completed Saturday morning at the Arcadia Vietnam Monument table that will be situated in the exhibit area at Supervisor Barger’s “Tribute To Veterans and Military Families” event or, it can be completed online at: arcadiavietnammonument.org/events. Click on the link “Remembering Our Fallen.” Applications are also available at VJ’s Auto Service, 400 N. 1st Avenue, Arcadia.
While supplies last, there will be free baked goods courtesy of the Arcadia Fire Department and other free food and drink at the monument. Arcadia Vietnam War Monument polo shirts and caps will be on sale to help the monument’s maintenance and marketing fund. Contributions are welcome and they are tax deductible. The first 100 guests will receive a free Arcadia Vietnam War Monument bag and other souvenirs while supplies last.
