LA-based nonprofit’s #Seen campaign seeks to attract potential foster families

Foster care, adoption and mental health nonprofit Five Acres will partner with All Saints Episcopal Church and Prism Church to light the church properties blue, the signature color of National Foster Care Month, at 7:30 p.m. on May 19 and 20, 2019. Passersby are encouraged to share a photo of the lights on social media with the hashtag #Seen and tag the nonprofit @fiveacresorg to raise awareness for the more than 20,000 children in need of permanent families in Los Angeles.

“Los Angeles is grappling with a critical shortage of loving foster families. The lights will serve as symbolic beacons to help foster children be seen,” says Chanel Boutakidis, Five Acres CEO. “Whether you consider fostering, volunteering, donating or simply sharing a photo online, our ‘Seen’ campaign this May is chance for our community to spotlight these deserving kids and resolve to act on their behalf.”

The lighting coincides with Five Acres’ poster campaign where interested parties can request a free “Seen” poster to display in their place of work, worship or community.

Additionally, Float Pasadena will be offering a specialty “Five Acres” ice cream float for the entire month of May with a portion of the proceeds supporting Five Acres’ programs in foster care, adoption and mental health for at-risk families. A second give-back event will take place with Mother Moo Creamery in Sierra Madre on May 17, 18 and 19, with 100 percent of proceeds from their “Five Acres Blueberry Bar” ice cream benefitting the nonprofit.

To view the lights, visit All Saints Episcopal Church at 132 N. Euclid Ave. in Pasadena or Prism Church at 61 N. Hill Ave. in Pasadena any time after 7:30 p.m. on May 19–20, 2019.
