Hillsides Needs Help to Provide Happy Summers for Children in Foster Care
Hillsides, a foster care and mental health charity, has launched a Summer “Bucket List” drive for the children who live at the charity’s residential treatment program. The drive, which runs through July 1, 2019, raises funds for the children to experience summertime activities and create happy memories.
Most of the children in residence at Hillsides are in foster care. They have missed out on typical childhood experiences, such as visiting an amusement park or even going to a movie. In addition, summertime is often a very difficult time for the children.
“We think of summer as a fun break from school, but children in foster care don’t have family to go on outings with. In fact, the long days without a routine can be even more of a reminder of how alone a child is,” said Laura Kelso, Hillsides community resource director.
Items on the list include trips to amusement parks, to the movies, and to Boomers. To donate, click here. People can choose to donate the cost of sending one child on a fun event or sponsoring a cottage of 10 children.
