Officer Involved Shooting in Pasadena

No injuries, Suspects taken into custody

On Thursday, May 3, 2019, at approximately 10:03 p.m., in the 1300 block of North Raymond Avenue, Pasadena Police attempted to make a routine traffic stop. The driver fled northbound and a short pursuit ensued. The suspect lost control of his vehicle and crashed at Raymond Avenue/Woodbury Blvd. The suspect vehicle ended up being positioned facing southbound. Officers arrived on scene in a northbound direction.

Officers ordered the suspects to get out of the vehicle, but they did not comply. The suspect driver started the vehicle and attempted to flee in the direct path of officers. It was at this time, that one officer fired his weapon.  Two suspects were taken into custody. Neither the officer involved, the suspects, nor any member of the community were injured during the incident.

As per PPD protocol, a review of the officer involved shooting has commenced.

Chief John E. Perez stated, “We stand by our officers as this incident is being investigated from the criminal, administrative, and civil standpoint. My officers were courageous in their efforts to protect the public and control a hazardous scene doing the everyday tasks you would expect from your police department. In the coming weeks, body worn camera as well as in car camera video, and other evidence will be made public for the community to review”.

The suspects are identified as two 17-year-old males, one residing in Pasadena and the other in El Monte. The driver was booked into Juvenile Hall while the passenger was released to a family member.
