Caltech Presents 39th Annual Bandorama
The Caltech-Occidental Wind Orchestra and the Caltech Jazz Band Present the 39th Annual Bandorama. This event will take place on May 17 and 18 at 8 p.m. in Ramo Auditorium at Caltech.
The Caltech-Occidental Wind Orchestra, directed by Glenn D. Price is proud to present “Wind Band Classics” as part of the annual Bandorama concert. Featuring the iconic works First Suite in E-flat by Gustav Holst, Irish Tune from County Derry by Percy Grainger, and Suite of Old American Dances by Robert Russell Bennett, they will also showcase clarinet soloist Lynne Snyder in a concerto by British composer Martin Ellerby.
The Caltech Jazz Band, directed by Barb Catlin, will close the year with an emphasis on Los Angeles composers, as well as selections showcasing specific sections of the band. The trombones will step forward on John Clayton’s swinging, “Sunny Side of the Street,” and the saxes are tackling the Supersax arrangement of “Cool Blues.” Grad students Sophie Miller, Richard Feder amd Muir Morrison and freshman drummer, Tighe Didden, will be featured on arrangements by Sammy Nestico, Bill Holman, Bob Mintzer, Thad Jones and Bert Joris.
