Monrovia’s Caring Crafters Program Welcomes All
The Caring Crafters program is a free program for adults hosted at the Monrovia Community Center (119 W. Palm Ave.) every Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m. The group’s goal is to support each other in crafting and fellowship as well as give back to the community. The program is open to crafters of all skill levels.
Caring Crafters knit and crochet items to donate to the community. Program participants have spent the last several months making twiddle muffs – knitted or crocheted muffs with items attached to keep dementia patients’ hands active, busy and warm – which they donated to Alzheimer’s Los Angeles. Many hospital wards have found that the muffs have a positive effect on patients by keeping them comforted, as well as encouraging movement and brain stimulation.
Caring Crafters donate to several organizations throughout the year. They make blankets, hats, and gloves to donate to local community groups in need.
The Caring Crafters are always looking for donations of thin yarn, knitting and crocheting tools, and various loops. Those looking to donate can call (626) 256-8226 or email caringcrafters@ci.monrovia.ca.us.
