Curated by Performances à la Carte, the Pasadena based collaborative arts and social conscience entity, presents its final concert of the Spring 2019 Jazz ‘n Paz intimate seasonal early Sunday evening jazz series. Join vibraphonist, bandleader, composer and arranger Nick Mancini and his Collective along with special guest vocalist Jamie Perez on Sunday, April 28 at 5 p.m. at Neighborhood UU Church, in a concert of improv standards, originals and Elton John tunes that will blow your mind. The Nick Mancini Collective features Nick Mancini, vibraphone; Danny Janklow, saxophone; John Tegmeyer, clarinet; Michael Ragonese, piano; Cooper Appelt, bass; James Yoshizawa, drums; Scott Breadman, percussion; and Pete Korpeta, percussion.

Nick Mancini began his professional career as a drummer, at the age of 15. He graduated Manhattan School of Music’s Master’s degree program in jazz performance, establishing himself as a sought-after presence in NYC’s jazz scene. In 2006 he relocated to Los Angeles, where his undeniable jazz wizardry was immediately recognized and an eager following of appreciators gained momentum. Since then he has steadily performed, recorded and promoted the Los Angeles jazz scene with performances, multiple recordings and his own jazz series at the gallery Curve Line Space. Mancini has shared the stage with such diverse luminaries as Arturo Sandoval, Kenny Werner, Charles Fambrough, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, New York Voices, Jennifer Holliday, Bob Hurst, John Beasley, Jesca Hoop, Leon Fleisher and Julian Fleisher, and performed at such notable venues as Birdland (NYC), the Aspen Music Festival, Catalina Jazz Club, Jazz at LACMA, Jazz Bakery, Troubadour, Hotel Cafe and virtually every jazz venue in Los Angeles.

A fierce and prolific composer and arranger, Mancini boasts nine independently released records under his own name; the latest entitled The Long Game. His original compositions, along with some choice jazz standards, create the fertile soil for spontaneous arrangements, which are, at once, fresh, incisive, and cinematic. With a host of world-class musicians in his midst, he selects from the cream-of-the-crop to form his highly energized Collective. Mancini, at the helm of this rotation of Los Angeles’ most creative and inventive musicians, will tempt your curiosity and leave you always wanting more.

Saxophonist, multi-Instrumentalist, educator, producer and composer Danny Janklow is quickly gaining international recognition for his soulful and innovative musical voice. His heart-felt, passionate, and highly energetic music has reached and inspired thousands of listeners from Japan to Holland to Mexico. His live performances, often described as “emotionally charged” and “vibrant celebrations,” leave his listeners always wanting more…
