Tip-A-Cop fundraiser for Special Olympics
Monrovia Police Officers and members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be waiting tables at Claim Jumper on April 11 from 5-9 p.m. They ask that you be generous with your tips as 100% of those tips will be donated to the Special Olympics program. Claim Jumper is located at 820 W. Huntington Drive in Monrovia, next to the Doubletree.
Earth Day will be celebrated April 20 in Canyon Park
On Saturday, April 20 from 1-3 p.m. Monrovians will have a chance to celebrate Earth Day. Canyon Park is located at the north end of Canyon Boulevard. There will be information booths, face painting, guided tours, snacks, and an opportunity for youngsters to build a planter.
Community Media of the Foothills to hold a class on making a PSA
Monrovia’s public access station will be offering a new workshop to teach individuals how to make a 30-second public service announcement (PSA). This workshop will be held on April 17 from 6-7 p.m. at the station’s studio at 847 E. Olive Ave. It is located in the southeast corner of the Mary Wilcox Youth Center. Participants will learn how to write a targeted script, use a teleprompter, as well as learn on-camera skills and more. To learn more about the workshop or to sign up for it call (626) 357-4974. The studio is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Space is limited so reservations are required.
Community Garden being started in Monrovia
An informational meeting will be held Saturday, April 13 in the Monrovia Public Library Community room from 9 -10:30 a.m. The garden is set to launch this summer. Applications for the plots must be filled by May 17. This is a joint project of the City of Monrovia with Mountainside Communion. The garden will be at the northwest corner of Colorado Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue. For more information on the project, go to MonroviaCommunityGarden.org.
