Reader Response to ‘Transparency and the Police…’

No matter how jaded we’ve become after learning about the widespread instances of police misconduct, it still comes as a shock when we read that more than a few peace officers (who are sworn to protect us from criminals) are often criminals themselves.

In my opinion, therefore, it’s absolutely necessary that news agencies are given full access to police personnel records—all the way back to the day each member joined the force.

If union leaders who represent the officers expect us to trust and respect their members, they should stop stonewalling journalists who are seeking to unearth the truth about any of those public servants who are under suspicion of hiding skeletons in their closets.
