May 1
At 10:53 p.m., a 15-year-old male was looking at his laptop at a school on South Hudson Avenue. An unknown male teenager approached on the school campus holding a 4-inch folding knife with the blade exposed. The suspect said nothing, slashed at the victim’s chest with the knife, cutting the front of his shirt, but causing no injury. The suspect then ran southbound on Hudson and out of sight. Responding officers were unable to locate the suspect and the victim has never seen him before. This case remains under investigation.
May 2
At 12:43 a.m., officers were monitoring the 100 block of east Colorado Boulevard as patrons were leaving a nightclub and were advised a fight was occurring in the parking lot to the rear. When the officers arrived, they saw the two male victims on the ground with significant facial injuries. Two male victims and five female witnesses stated they were waiting in the rear parking lot for an Uber to pick them up when they were approached by a group of four to five male Hispanics in their 20s. The suspects were aggressively making unwanted advances to the females and harassing them. The two male victims stepped in and asked the suspects to leave their friends alone. The suspects then attacked the victims with their fists and feet. One of the male victims was “knocked out” and both suffered significant facial injuries. The suspects fled before the arrival of police. Officers canvassed the Old Pasadena area for the suspects, but they were not located. Both victims were transported to HMH for treatment of their injuries.
May 3
At 10:03 p.m., officers in the 1300 block of North Raymond Avenue attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver decided to flee northbound and a short vehicle pursuit ensued. The driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed at Raymond Avenue/Woodbury Blvd. Officers ordered the suspects to get out of the vehicle, but they did not cooperate. The suspect driver started the vehicle and attempted to flee in the direct path of officers. An officer involved shooting ensued and two occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody without injuries. No one was injured during the incident.
At 10 a.m., a motor officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a motorcyclist at Euclid Avenue and Glenarm Street. The motorcyclist refused to stop, and entered the Interstate 110 Freeway travelling south. A pursuit ensued during which the motorcyclist fled from the officer at a high rate of speed. The involved officer discontinued the pursuit when he deemed it too dangerous to continue. The officer independently weighed the need to pursue and apprehend the violator versus threat to public and his personal safety. His decision to discontinue based on the totality of the circumstances was absolutely correct. The identity of the suspect is unknown.
May 4
At 9:18 a.m., officers made a traffic stop in the area of Glen Avenue and Washington Boulevard. The driver claimed the vehicle he was driving was not his, and could not provide identification. During the preliminary investigation, officers had developed probable cause to search the vehicle. During the search, a Springfield .40 caliber handgun was located. Both suspects were arrested without incident. This case was filed by LA County DA’s office.
May 6
At 10:32 a.m., a male entered his car, which was parked inside his garage in the 1600 block of Las Lunas St., and noticed items had been pulled out of the glove box. He also saw an unknown hiding inside the garage and armed himself with a metal rod to confront the suspect. The suspect struck the victim on the head with a bottle opener and ran out of the garage. Responding officers were not able to locate the suspect, but found personal property left in the garage by the suspect, containing evidence from other vehicle burglaries in the area. The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene.
May 8
At 2:27 a.m., a resident called the police regarding three males on their property in the 1300 block of Glen Oaks Boulevard. After ringing the doorbell, the suspects kicked in the front door and entered, setting off the alarm. The residents yelled at the suspects to get out and they all ran down the street. Their actions were captured on video surveillance. All three got into a Toyota and drove off eastbound on Glen Oaks. Responding officers saw the car with the three suspects near Glen Oaks Blvd. and Mooresque Dr. as they conducted a felony traffic stop. All three suspects were taken into custody without incident. On May 10, 2019, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed first degree residential burglary charges against all three suspects. The preliminary hearing has been set for June 4, 2019.
May 9
At 6:43p.m., officers responded to a call of a man pointing a gun at a family member in the 1500 block of Glen Avenue. The victim was on the phone talking to a friend when her son demanded to know who she was talking to. The suspect grabbed the phone from the victim’s hand, yelled obscenities and accused her of the death of a family member. He continued to yell at the victim and threatened to put a gun in her mouth. The suspect left the residence but was located outside by arriving officers. He fled from officers on foot and ignored commands to stop. The suspect stopped running and suddenly grabbed one of the officers by the neck. Officers struggled with the suspect and he resisted arrest but was taken into custody. The victim was not injured and the officers sustained minor injuries. No firearm was located but the suspect was found to be in possession of cocaine.
May 10
At 10:54 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of North Garfield Avenue regarding shots fired. The investigation revealed that an unknown suspect fired rounds into the air in front of a residence. There was video evidence of the incident. No one was injured and the investigation is ongoing. This case is under investigation.
May 11
At 12:28 p.m., a male adult crossed Orange Grove Boulevard, northbound at Manzanita Avenue, and was hit by a passing vehicle. The suspect was driving eastbound on Orange Grove Boulevard, approaching Fair Oaks Boulevard. The suspect left the scene immediately after the accident. During the course of the investigation, officers located the suspect and suspect vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was treated for critical injuries. The Major Accident Investigation Team responded to investigate.
May 12
At 10:17 a.m., a woman entered an 84 year old victim’s apartment through the unlocked front door of a rehab center in the 100 block of south El Molino Avenue. She then assaulted the victim with her hands for unknown reasons, using one hand to cover her mouth and nose, and the other hand to hit the victim in the face. The victim was struck multiple times. The suspect left the victim’s room, but remained in the apartment. The victim locked her bedroom door and called the police. Officers arrived and located the suspect in the living room of the apartment where she was arrested for elder abuse. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. This case was filed with the LA County DA’s office for one count of elder abuse.
May 13
At 12:38 a.m., a lone suspect entered an ice cream establishment in the 1200 block of Green Street as the business was closing. He threatened four employees while holding a knife. The suspect demanded money and personal property, leaving north on Chester Avenue. When police arrived the personal property was recovered outside the business but the suspect had fled with the money. No reported injuries.
At 10:39 p.m., a male adult had an argument with three suspects in the 600 block of South Arroyo Parkway after he had been bothering customers at a restaurant. The victim hit one person in the face as his associate brandished a wooden bat. The man with the bat began to hit the ground with it as Suspect #1 took the bat and hit the victim on the head causing major injuries. The suspects entered a burgundy sedan and fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated for his injury. This case remains under investigation.
May 15
At 4:27 p.m., the victim parked her car near Orange Grove Boulevard and Palmetto Street with her dog and personal property locked inside. She left her windows rolled down for the dog and went inside for a meeting. Upon returning to her car, she saw that her dog and personal property were gone. When officer arrived, she stated that her husband had just called her cell saying that he received a text message someone who claimed to have the dog and would return it for a large sum of money. The husband’s cell phone was on the dog’s tag. A meeting location was preplanned with officers surveilling the location. The victim texted the suspect requesting the dog and all the property that was taken from her car. The suspect agreed to meet her at the location and upon his arrival, he was arrested by officers without incident. He had the dog and other the stolen items with him. A security camera of the parking lot captured the suspect reaching into the car, opening the doors and removing the dog and other items. The dog and personal items were returned to the victim at the scene and the juvenile suspect was arrest for grand theft and extortion. A juvenile petition was filed with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office – Juvenile Division.
May 17
At 6:27 p.m., officers responded to the area of Howard Street and Glen Avenue, regarding a male seen with a AR-15 type weapon. Upon arrival, an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect expired at the scene. LASD Homicide responded for the investigation along with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
May 19
At 12:06 a.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of Juanita Avenue regarding multiple calls of a fight in the street. A lone suspect had also fired a handgun into the air and ground before leaving the scene in a dark colored vehicle. Upon arriving on scene, officers discovered a large gathering of young adults at the location celebrating a birthday party. Ballistic evidence was located in the street in front of a residence. The investigation is ongoing.
At 7:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of Hammond Street and Summit Avenue regarding a male threatening another with a knife. When officers arrived, they spoke to the victim. The victim stated he did not want to open a secured door to an apartment complex for the suspect. The suspect apparently was insulted by the victim’s inaction. The suspect jumped a fence and entered the complex. Once inside, the suspect confronted the victim and displayed a knife. The suspect’s stepfather detained the suspect until police arrived. There were no injuries during the incident. The suspect was arrested without incident.
May 22
At 6:58 p.m., a male adult walked into a store in the 600 block of North Los Robles Avenue and pointed a gun at the clerk, demanding the money from the cash registers. The clerk gave the suspect the money and the suspect walked out of the store out of sight. He was described as a 20-30 year old male White or Hispanic, 5-foot-8, thin build, dark hoodie sweatshirt, light colored pants, full beard, sunglasses, a gray baseball hat with white lettering and a white mesh backing.
May 23
At 7:04 p.m., dispatch received multiple calls of a male adult standing on the south side of the Colorado Street Bridge on the outside of the fencing. PFD and PPD officers responded and initiated negotiations with the male. The male was distraught over marital problems. PPD Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the scene along with the victim’s parents. After approximately two hours of negotiations, PFD removed a portion of the wrought iron fence on the bridge. The victim willingly climbed back over to safety. The victim was placed on a psychiatric hold and suffered no injuries.
May 26
At 1:59 a.m., officers responded to the PPD jail for a transportation detail of an inmate to county jail on a parole violation. The suspect chose not to comply with being handcuffed for the transportation and became physically combative toward uniformed officers. The suspect continued his violent and resistive efforts by flailing his legs and tensing his arms under his body. The suspect’s violent resistive efforts resulted one officer deploying a Taser, which was effective to handcuff the suspect without further incident. The suspect was transported to the local hospital for medical clearance. One officer sustained pain to the knee.
May 27
At 4:18 a.m., a male adult was awakened in his residence in the 1200 block of Laurel Street by a loud noise and found a door to his upstairs balcony had been broken. He looked out and saw an unknown male climbing down from his balcony. Arriving officers searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him. The suspect did not get inside the residence and there was no loss other than the damage to the window.
May 28
At 2:03 a.m., suspect(s) entered a residence in the 1200 block of Altadena Drive while the occupants were sleeping, by removing louvers in the living room. The male victim was awakened and saw a male suspect standing in the doorway to his bedroom. The victim yelled at the suspect who then left the location. Arriving officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect(s). The investigation continues.
At 11 a.m., officers responded to a call of a man breaking into a vehicle in the 600 block of east Green Street. On arrival, one of the officers saw a male, who matched the provided description inside a vehicle. Recognizing him from an earlier call, the officer asked him to get out of the car and speak to him. As this subject exited the car he had a screwdriver and various car parts in his hand and he was detained. Officers discovered a rear window of the car had been pried off. Gloves and personal belongings of the suspect were also found inside the vehicle. The jacket that the suspect had been wearing was ultimately identified as the victim’s property that was inside the car. This subject was arrested for auto burglary and booked into the Pasadena City Jail.
At 3:06 p.m., a 17-year-old female walked on the sidewalk in the 100 block of West Washington Boulevard. A male adult approached as asked her to use her phone. The victim handed the male her phone and he began to walk away from her with the phone into a local apartment complex. The suspect walked into a laundry room on the property and the victim followed. She took her phone back from him and when she tried to leave, the suspect grabbed her from behind and told her not to leave. She began to scream and he simulated a handgun and told her he would shoot her. The victim ran from the location to a family member’s house and called the police. The investigation is on-going.
May 30
At 6:47 a.m., officers responded to a residential burglary in the 400 block of Laguna Road, where the suspect was found naked inside the victim’s bathroom. The suspect claimed he was looking for his clothes. The victim found the suspect’s jeans in the bedroom. He gave the suspect the jeans and told him to leave. The suspect was wearing the victim’s t-shirt and shorts. He left the residence and was detained in the area of San Miguel Road and Nithsdale Road. He was arrested and transported to the PPD jail. The suspect was out on bond for another residential burglary that occurred the day before in the City of South Pasadena. The victim was not injured during this incident.
