Dr. Simona Bordoni, Professor of Environmental Science and Engineering at California Institute of Technology (Caltech) will discuss the relationship between rainfall, wind patterns, and how air affects the amount of rainfall in different parts of the Earth on Saturday, March 16 at 11 a.m. at Pasadena Public Library’s Linda Vista Branch, 1281 Bryant St. She will also talk about how these different climactic zones come about and how they influence each other in a changing climate.

Professor Simona Bordoni received her Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science in 2007 from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She also received the Moore Postdoctoral Fellowship in Environmental Science and Engineering from Caltech in 2007. In 2008, Professor Bordoni received the Advanced Study Program Postdoctoral Fellowship, National Center for Atmospheric Research and, the following year, she earned the James R. Holton Junior Scientist Award by the American Geophysical Union for advancing “fundamental understanding of the dynamics of large-scale monsoon circulations worldwide.” In 2010, Professor Bordoni was recognized as one of 10 scientists under 40 years old, worldwide, in the Science and Technology Forum, Kyoto, Japan, and, in 2014, she earned the 2017 ISSNAF (Italian Scientists and Scholars of North America Foundation) Young Scientist Award in Environmental Sciences. In 2017, Dr. Bordoni earned full professorship in the department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Caltech.
