Monrovia Councilmember Gloria Crudgington Battles Oral Cancer

Last week, Councilmember Gloria Crudgington shared with the community that she had been diagnosed with oral cancer.  The early stage tumor that was detected in her tongue was most likely caused by oral lichen planus, a rare autoimmune disorder, and a disorder that only rarely results in cancer. Of note, a comprehensive head to toe Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan confirmed that the cancer is confined to her tongue, and after multiple visits to the Keck USC Medical Center and the City of Hope, Councilmember Crudgington had elective surgery to remove the tumor at the City of Hope this past Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019.

Cleve Crudgington, Councilmember Crudgington’s terrific live-in nurse and husband, shared that although she is in pain, she has been “bouncing back with remarkable speed.” In fact, Councilmember Crudgington was reported to be maintaining her unique sense of humor, and was recovering well enough to be released to return home this past Saturday, Feb. 9.
