Competition will be held March 9

By Susan Motander

The Suit Bots, one of Monrovia High School’s robotics teams, emerged as the top ranked team in the Lucky Baldwin League of First, the not-for-profit foundation that works to inspire students in science and technology. The Suit Bots earned the Byson Cup for their achievement.

They are advanced to the next round of competition after competing in the Inter-League Tournament, held last Saturday at Monrovia High School. The top ranking teams from Saturday’s competition will now go to the Regional Championship on March 9, also to be held at MHS. The competition will be held in the event center (new gym) at the school (845 W. Colorado Blvd.). It is open to the public with parking in the student lot off Madison.

The mission of First “is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.” According to the founder of the organization, Dean Kamen, its vision is: To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders.”
