Author Katie Martin to be Keynote speaker for Arcadia Innovation Summit
Arcadia Unified School District is very excited to announce that author and student advocate Katie Martin, Ph.D., will be a keynote speaker at the 5th Annual Arcadia Innovation Summit on June 21, 2019.
Martin strives to create classrooms that empower students to share their work, as opposed to preparing them for a test, so that all children can thrive in a changing world. Her book, “Learner-Centered Innovation: Spark Curiosity, Ignite Passion, and Unleash Genius”, explores questions such as: What if learners were valued for their diverse talents and not just our traditional model of ‘smart’?; What if I could create new and better experiences for those I serve?; What if I could inspire students to learn, to discover their passions and to share their ideas with the world?
She has spent the past five years helping redefine educators’ roles. Using her experience as a middle school English language arts teacher, instructional coach, and lead in her district’s new teacher mentoring program, she now works with districts and school leaders to create the conditions that support deeper learning for all students.
Martin holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in middle school education, and her doctoral studies focused on new teacher induction. A leader, teacher, and speaker, Martin’s experience continues to guide her belief that if we want to change how students learn, we must change how educators learn. You can learn more about her at katielmartin.com, and you can register for the Arcadia Innovation Summit, free of charge, at arcadiainnovationsummit.com. Arcadia Unified is thrilled Katie will be sharing her expertise with educators from all over California.
