Monrovia Comes out Flat in Loss to League-Leading La Cañada
By Aaron Valdez
This season was a promising one for Monrovia boys’ basketball, but the team’s latest 77-38 loss to La Cañada signals a bitter end to its 2018-19 campaign.
Outside of a few nice wins here and there, the Wildcats have had a rough year as they completely fell out of contention for the Rio Hondo League title on Tuesday. La Cañada was much too polished of team for a struggling Monrovia side that was dealt its fourth loss in a row and 15th of the season.
The Wildcats jumped out to a decent start on Tuesday as they matched the Spartans bucket for bucket to end the first quarter even at 10. Unfortunately, they were completely outclassed by La Cañada’s high-powered offense and were outscored 67-28 in the remaining three quarters.
The last time Monrovia won a game was when it throttled last-place Blair 77-33 on Jan 11. With only four games left in the season, the Wildcats will limp to the finish line as they prepare to host Blair (0-6) on Thursday in hopes of picking up any sort of consolation along the way.
