The Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation and the City of Arcadia present the Arcadia Lunar New Year Festival on Jan. 19, 2019 from 1-5 p.m. at the Arcadia Performing Arts Center Courtyard, located at 188 Campus Drive. Tickets are $5 per person and free for children two-years old and younger. Each guest receives five coupons for food, activities, and raffles. Guests who donate a book at the gate receive a free raffle ticket.

Guests enjoy storytelling, face painting, caricatures, calligraphy, raffles, food, red carpet photos with the “Lucky God of Prosperity,” and photos with a real pig sponsored by Wonders of Wildlife. Crafts include decorating lanterns, fans, paper cutting, Chinese knots, and porcelain decorating. Performances feature lion dancing, music, a traditional fashion show, and other entertainment. Silent auction items were donated by Michael Kors, St. John, and G.H. Wilke.

To celebrate Arcadia’s first official Chinese New Year Festival, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Congresswoman Judy Chu, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Assemblymember Ed Chau, Arcadia Mayor Sho Tay, Arcadia Unified School District Board of Education, and Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation will join leaders from Arcadia Chinese Association and Arcadia High School Chinese Parents Booster Club.

The foundation’s “concerts with a cause” raises funds for arts education. This year, the festival will raise funds for Arcadia High School Orchestra’s classroom sound panels. Arcadia Music Club is the recipient of the foundation’s 2019 Cultural Leadership Award for promoting arts excellence in the schools.
