As we enter the twilight of the 2019 regular season, Pasadena’s Polytechnic girls’ water polo team is on the verge of finishing the year without losing one single game.

The Panthers have been virtually unstoppable this season as they look to avenge last year’s abrupt first-round playoff loss to Palos Verdes in double overtime. The team’s latest 21-3 victory over cross-town rival La Salle on Tuesday brings them one step closer to not only the Prep League title, but to CIF playoffs as well.

This prolific win against La Salle is not out of the ordinary for the Panthers but it does represent their second-largest margin of victory this season with the largest being a 21-1 dismantling over Brentwood on Dec. 12.

Overall, Polytechnic has defeated its opponents by an average margin of 12 goals this season. On another good note, the Panthers had a remarkable run at the 7th annual Los Altos Tournament in December, winning their section by defeating Bonita 17-7, La Habra 10-4, Brea Olinda 12-7 and Sunny Hills 13-7.

With Polytechnic’s record at 15-0 overall and 9-0 in league, the team will just have to defeat Westridge on Friday to secure the league crown. The Panthers already beat Westridge 20-4 back on Jan. 7.
