Arcadia boys’ soccer has certainly seen better days as its chances to capture the Pacific League title this season appear even bleaker after the team’s latest 2-1 loss to Burroughs on Tuesday.
Outside of their 5-0 blowout over La Salle in the season opener, the Apaches (2-6-1) have struggled mightily to put together a winning effort on the pitch. This is a far cry from last year when Arcadia was in contention for the Pacific League title but ended up finishing in third with an 8-5-1 record.
Since that season opening win, the Apaches went on to drop six of their next eight games. Five of those six losses were against league opponents while the reaming one was a 3-1 defeat to Temple City in a nonleague bout on Dec. 18.
Arcadia did manage to salvage a 2-2 draw with Muir on Dec. 11 and a 2-0 win over Hoover on Friday, which was a team the Apaches had already lost once to earlier this season.
With Burroughs sitting atop the league table at 5-0-2, Arcadia’s chances at staging a comeback are looking quite grim. However, there are still seven games left on the schedule and the Apaches will seek to dig themselves out of this hole starting with a home match against Crescenta Valley on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
