Monrovia Wildcats in Good Position for Deep Rio Hondo League Run
By Aaron Valdez
As league play looms on the horizon, Monrovia girls’ water polo is dialed in for a comeback season as the team looks to erase last year’s fifth-place finish with a title this time around.
The Wildcats closed out the preseason on a high note by winning their last two games and putting together a 10-6 overall record. The team is showing promising signs and is focused to ride their momentum all the way through league action.
Their last game came in a 13-6 victory over Los Altos on Dec. 20. Senior Isabelle Ngyuen led the offense with five goals while junior Kaitlyn Regan and sophomore Marley Courtney each laced in a hat trick.
On the season, Ngyuen has orchestrated the offense to a tee, recording 29 total assists to go with her 29 total goals. Charlotte Gray leads the team in scoring as she’s tickled the twine 38 times this season. Both goalies have also seen plenty of action with Phoebe Levengood and Allison Menlove coming up with 96 and 47 total saves, respectively.
The Wildcats will host San Marino (6-4 Overall, 0-1 Rio Hondo) in their first league match on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
