The conditions have been chilly and the water even chillier, but Arcadia girls’ water polo is looking to heat things up as it furthers its crusade of winning the Pacific League title.
After finishing with a middling 3-3 league record last season, the Apaches will be on a mission this year to capture their first ever league title. The closest the team ever came was when it finished in second place with a 6-2 record two seasons ago.
To open this season, Arcadia took two steps forward and two steps back. The team was off on the right foot as it earned big wins over Mark Keppel and Granada Hills. However, the Apaches hit the waters two weeks later and fell short to Monrovia 8-4 and Alemany 9-4.
Since then, the Apaches have been all over the board and in and out of the win column. Their outing at the Ayala Tournament in mid December was not to kind to them as they lost four of five games.
Despite the shortcomings, Arcadia still sports a respectable 9-8 record and is already 2-0 in league action with victories over Hoover and Burbank. The Apaches will compete in the Western Varsity Tournament on Friday and Saturday before returning to Pacific league play on Jan. 10 to take on Pasadena at home.
