Arcadia Preps for Latter Stretch of League Title Race
By Aaron Valdez
While most teams are taking break in celebration of the holidays, the Arcadia girls’ soccer team doesn’t plan to take a break from winning as they will soon return in January looking to continue their unbeaten streak in league play.
Overall, the Apaches have gone up against a stout schedule that has brought their record to 5-5-2. This stretch included some rough outings at the Best of the West tournament and Newport Harbor tournament as they won only one of four combined games.
However, it’s been exactly the opposite in Pacific League action as Arcadia is undefeated so far at 4-0-1, which has them tied for first place with Crescenta Valley. So far, the Apaches defeated Burbank 6-0, Hoover 2-0, Muir 9-0, Glendale 1-0 and drew with Pasadena 1-1.
Arcadia’s top goal scorer is forward Avery Bogue, who has netted seven thus far. Following Bogue is forward Teresa Rosas with four while Bertha Guzman, Shriya Velichala, Cameron Hoon and Sanaz Mosallaie have all recorded two.
The second half of the Apaches’ Pacific League campaign will feature a much tougher slate as they still have yet to play Crescenta Valley (4-0-1) and Burroughs (3-0-1), who are still vying for that top spot in the standings.
Arcadia will return to the pitch on Jan. 4 to take on Hoover at Salter Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
