Monrovia boys’ soccer has seen better days as it wrapped up its mixed bag of a preseason last week before kicking off Rio Hondo League action at the turn of the new year.

After starting their preseason 0-3, the Wildcats were able to salvage a nice 4-0 win against Nipomo during the Cats & Hounds tournament at Paso Robles High School. However, Monrovia dropped their next two games in that tournament, which ultimately sent them home early.

The Wildcats were able to make a better impression at their own tournament earlier this month as they opened it with two 1-0 wins over Gladstone and St. Paul. They did fall to La Canada the following game but bounced back to defeat Ayala 2-1.

Last week, Monrovia drew twice with La Habra 3-3 and Pomona 1-1. Despite not getting a win, these results still bode well for the Wildcats as both La Habra (6-2-3) and Pomona (3-1-3) are having solid seasons.

The team will return to action for their first Rio Hondo League game against La Canada on Jan. 5. The Wildcats will be positioned to defend their league title from last season.
