Woods-Valentine Mortuary Celebrates 90 Years in Business
Woods-Valentine Mortuary celebrated its 90 Anniversary, on Saturday, December 15, 2018. Today, it is one of the oldest African-American owned and operated businesses in Pasadena, as well as in the San Gabriel Valley. Woods-Valentine is a full service funeral home, well known for its professionalism, cosmetic enhancement, excellent customer service and for a staff who is genuine and caring.
Founded by James and Annie Mae Woods as James Woods Funeral Parlor, on Dec. 15, 1928, the business is blessed to be in its third generation. Fred W. Valentine, nephew of James Woods owned and operated the mortuary, renamed Woods-Valentine Mortuary, with his wife Arzella from 1954, until he passed away May 13, 2017, at age 98. Their daughters, Janyce L. Valentine (Manager) and Gail Valentine Taylor (Asst. Manager), currently run the business.
Throughout the years the Valentines have received numerous awards for success in business and for community service. They have also made countless monetary contributions to many organizations’ ongoing scholarship funds, to church programs throughout the community, and to youth sports organizations.
The Valentine family attributes their business success to God, to a community that has placed their confidence in them throughout the years, and to a caring and hardworking staff. With gratitude they celebrate 90 years of service. Woods-Valentine Mortuary is located at 1455 N. Fair Oaks Ave. Pasadena, CA 91103 and can be contacted at (626) 798-8941.
