As high as some falcons have been known to fly, it’s the Wildcats that are flying even higher as the Monrovia girls’ soccer team improves to 3-0 with its latest 8-0 dismantling of Duarte on Tuesday.

While it is still early in the season, Monrovia is already looking much more polished than they did last year where they went winless in league play. Head Coach Carlos Cuellar said he is putting a lot of emphasis on ball possession and ball movement to break down opposing defenses, which worked like a charm against the Falcons.

“We have a very united group, we all get along,” Cuellar said. “Everybody is committed, everybody is there, and they all have a goal in mind, which is to make it to CIF again.”

Despite the Wildcats’ flurry of goals – in which six different players scored – it was their defense that put the offense in good positions while completely thwarting any threat Duarte threw their way.

Gabriela Fajardo and Jessie Alvarado terrorized the Duarte backline all night, each knocking in a brace while recording a combined three assists.

The Wildcats will face their biggest challenge yet when they square off with a strong Arcadia side on Thursday.
