Annual President’s Breakfast celebrates 2019 Tournament of Roses and First African-American President
The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce will honor 2019 Tournament of Roses Association President Gerald Freeny at the annual President’s Breakfast at the Hilton Pasadena on Thursday, Dec. 6.
Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by a festive celebratory program. Chamber members and friends will hear Freeny discuss “The Melody of Life”, the theme for the 2018 Tournament. Honored special guests include the Royal Court, as well as past Tournament presidents, local community and civic leaders.
Freeny is the first African-American to serve as President of the Tournament of Roses. He is also a cancer survivor and organ transplant recipient.
Additionally, Freeny has been a volunteer member of the Tournament of Roses Association since 1988. In addition to his years of service to the Tournament, Freeny’s community involvement has included: president of the San Gabriel chapter of NOBLE (National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives), the Pasadena Police Department Foundation Board, Pasadena Rose Bowl Aquatics Center Board, University Club, Pasadena YMCA Board and the Pasadena NAACP. Freeny is on Advisory Board of the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation and is a member of Historic First Lutheran Church.
Freeny attended Pasadena Christian School and John Muir High School and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance from California State University, Los Angeles.
Tickets to the President’s Breakfast are $75 each. Corporate tables of ten are $750. Guests must RSVP in advance.

The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and Civic Association is a professional business support and advocacy organization. Since the earliest days of Pasadena, the Chamber has played a major role in the development of this internationally renowned city. Since 1888, when the organization was founded as the Board of Trade, the Chamber’s primary purpose has been the enhancement of both the business climate and the quality of life in Pasadena and supporting the prosperity of the membership. The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce serves more than 1450 members.
