The memorial will be unveiled at Fire Station 101 on Dec. 4
Please join us for a special dedication event in honor of Chief Harry Alford Stevens. The event will take place at Monrovia Fire Station 101 (141 E Lemon Ave, Monrovia, CA 91016) on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m.
On Dec. 4, 1934, Chief Harry A. Stevens lost his life while patrolling the wind-battered areas of Monrovia when his vehicle was struck by an electric-powered streetcar.
During Chief Stevens 18 years with the city, he served as an engineer until he was promoted to Fire Chief in 1920. Chief Stevens quickly recognized the needs of the growing community, inspiring him to modernize the fire department. During his tenure, he ordered a new American La France Pumper, built a new fire station, and hired more firemen, which allowed the community to be serviced by two complete fire companies.
To celebrate the 84th anniversary of Chief Stevens’ death, the City invites you to attend the unveiling of the Chief Stevens Memorial Plaque. The event is free to the public and parking can be found in the East Lemon Avenue Parking Lot located at 124 E. Lemon Ave. Please RSVP by Monday, Dec. 3.
