Rockler Woodworking and Hardware in Pasadena is giving a unique opportunity to craft a handmade gift for the holiday season. Rockler will host handmade gift classes on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., as well as 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Participants do not have to have any woodworking experience – Rockler staff will teach them how to use a lathe and other tools to create a unique handle for their choice of a bottle opener, an ice cream scoop, or a pizza cutter. Each participant will leave with a one-of-a-kind, handmade gift. The class will last approximately 45 to 60 minutes, with the cost ranging from $35 to $45 depending on which utensil the attendee chooses to make.
Rockler decided to offer these holiday gift classes after conducting a nationwide survey of 500 people, which found that over half of those surveyed would prefer to receive handmade gifts over those bought in a store. The findings come just ahead of National Make a Gift Day (Dec. 3rd), which Rockler is recognizing by hosting its own Handmade Gift classes.
“Everyone leaves with a completed project that will make a great gift for someone they love,” says Scott Ekman, Rockler’s vice president of marketing.
Because handle turning is relatively simple, it’s ideal for anyone who wishes to participate, including those with little or no prior woodworking experience. Store staff will be on hand to answer questions and offer assistance. Each participant will leave with a completed utensil.
Class size will be limited to six participants per session and attendees under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Class sign-up is available online by going to the website at rockler.com/retail/stores/ca/pasadena-store. The store is located at 83 S. Rosemead Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91107. They can also be reached at (626) 356-9663.
