A high school track and field coach pleaded no contest recently to one misdemeanor count of child endangerment, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Villalobos immediately sentenced Danny Lee Harris of Pasadena to five years of summary probation, during which time he was ordered to provide a list of all his minor clients to the court, under seal; to not coach any minor clients unless another responsible adult is present; and to not have any electronic communications with any minors unless there is another adult, guardian or parent copied on that communication. He also will be subject to search and seizure by law enforcement, including of his electronic devices, during probation.
Deputy District Attorney Melanie Buccat said Harris additionally was sentenced to nine days in county jail for time served and must abide by a 10-year protective stay-away order for the victim. He must complete 52 sexual compulsion classes and 45 days of community labor under the terms of the negotiated plea agreement.
Between April and May 2017, Harris, a track and field coach at Gabrielino High School in San Gabriel, sent inappropriate text messages to a 17-year-old female student. A relative of the victim discovered the messages and alerted authorities.
Case GA101246 was investigated by the San Gabriel Police Department.
